Is it Impossible to Think We Can't Influence the Climate?
Why is it hard for people to think we *can't* have an influence on climate? Why is it so impossible to think of the tons of CO2 we pump into the atmosphere might actually have an impact?
I mean it looks like scientists are one step closer to influencing hurricane strength and direction.
Imagine with a couple of airplanes what we might be able to do to hurricanes and then imagine what 6 billion people on this Earth with all of their emissions might be able to do to the climate as a whole. So is it such a stretch to think we can't influence the climate?Scientists have made a breakthrough in man's desire to control the forces of nature – unveiling plans to weaken hurricanes and steer them off course, to prevent tragedies such as Hurricane Katrina.

Under one scheme, aircraft would drop soot into the near-freezing cloud at the top of a hurricane, causing it to warm up and so reduce wind speeds.
